Vasant G. Honavar is an Indian born computer scientist, and professor specializing in artificial intelligence at Iowa State University.
He received his Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he worked with Leonard Uhr. He is known for his research contributions in artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, semantic web, bioinformatics and computational biology. He has published many cited research articles as well as edited several books on these topics. His recent work is focused on data integration and knowledge discovery from semantically heterogeneous data sources, learning from biological data, and modular ontologies.
Honavar heads the Iowa State University Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory. He directs the Iowa State University Center for Computational Intelligence, Learning and Discovery. He is on the faculty of the interdepartmental graduate programs in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Human-Computer Interaction at Iowa State University.
He has held visiting professorships at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
